Springing Forward into Fundraising Season

Spring is finally here, and with it come exciting fundraising events. Community and corporate BBq’s, picnics, bike-a-thons and run/walk-a-thons are all great opportunities to fundraise.

Finding sponsorship and participants can be a challenge, but with the right promotional product company providing you with quality solutions, it can be a breeze – and that’s where we come in.

First, look at putting together registration kits with information on the cause, as well as a cause branded item as a ‘Thank You’ gift. In addition, provide items like awareness bands or buttons, for participants and volunteers to give to people willing to ‘donate’ to the cause.

Third, be sure to identify your volunteers – whether it’s a brightly coloured T-shirt, vest, or hat; it is important that they ‘stand out’ in the crowd to answer questions and direct people. A wearable item should be made available to all the participants, as a commemorative item, as well as a way to identify with the group during the event.

And don’t forget to offer your sponsors the chance to include their logo on some of the promotional items, especially
the participants’ T-shirts.

The right promotional products can help elevate an event, and make it a memorable experience for all involved.

Historic Win for Mayor Ford – Hero Burgers Restaurant to Open in Nathan Phillips Square

This Wednesday, April 3, Mayor Ford had won the bid to put a Hero Certified Burgers restaurant in Nathan Phillips Square, directly beside the Toronto City Hall. It seems that instead of the question being whether there should be a restaurant at that location to begin with, the councillors were arguing what TYPE of restaurant should be erected in that spot for the next five years.

Many argued that a burger chain is not indicative of the multicultural diversity that is such a significant part of Toronto’s culture. Were they saying, in more or less words, that a burger and fries is too ‘white’ to be representative of the City of Toronto? Their argument mainly relied on the idea that a restaurant should offer a larger selection of foods and cater to the wider Canadian market.

I however would argue that Hero Burgers is a great choice. It is a successful Canadian franchise which had started out in the heart of Toronto, in Yorkville. Its menu offerings go beyond the ordinary burger and fries joint with choices ranging from zuchinni relish, to mango sauce, sure to satisfy any taste palette. It’s a well recognized name, with a great reputation. The company is extremely involved in the community, SickKids Foundation and MultiSport are only a few of the causes. What can be more Torontonian than that?

Putting the argument aside, should the question not be whether there is a need for a restaurant in Nathan Phillips Square at all? Are the food trucks parked on Queen St. and the newly renovated food court at the Eaton Centre no longer sufficient lunch options?

If you had a chance to vote, what kind of restaurant or business would you like to see in Nathan Phillips Square? Would you wear a “Ford for Hero” or “No Ford, No Hero” T-shirt?
